Math Club

During my senior year at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts I was an active member of the Math Club. I gave monthly lectures on various topics and participated in several math competitions.

Lectures

I gave monthly lectures for the LSMSA Math Club on a variety of topics. The topics include:

Taking complex numbers to complex powers
Coordinate transformation
Taking square roots by hand
Mental math tricks
Finding determinants of matrices using linear operations
Gamma function
Beta function

Competitions

The two major competitions I went to was the LSU High School Mathematics Contest and the 88th Annual LA/MS Section Meeting of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). In the LSU Competition the LSMSA Team won first place. In MAA, the LSMSA Team won second place. LSMSA was the only high school competing, along with 15 teams from various universities from Louisiana and Mississippi.

LSMSA 2011 Math Competition

At the end of my senior year 2 friends and I decided to organize a math competition. The turnout wasn't very good but it was fun to pick/write problems for the tests. There were 3 categories (Advanced Math Individual, Advanced Math Team, and Calculus Individual) as well as an Integration Bee. Below are the 4 tests and their solutions:

Advanced Math Individual (Questions, Solutions)
Advanced Math Team (Questions, Solutions)
Calculus Individual (Questions, Solutions)
Integration Bee (Questions, Solutions)
